Brocker I 55 Civilization/Gandhi: Gandhi sees a plague in civilization(1). But this refers above all to Western civilization, Indian civilization still rests solidly on its foundation. "Rome perished, Greece suffered the same fate; the power of the pharaohs was broken; Japan was westernized"(2); only India still exists, according to Gandhi. The Gujarati word for civilization means "good behavior"(3). The fulfilment of duties and the observance of morals are the same. It means, Brocker I 56 that you can control yourself.
